August 2016 Mortgage Interest Rates

Mortgage interest rates have remained stable ever since the European financial crisis last month. Very little has changed overall, and rates have remained near historic lows. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.38% for the week, and 2.72% for a 15-year.

Fallout from the EU's Brexit vote tapered off slightly during the last half of July, and this allowed mortgage rates to calm a bit.  With the next Fed meeting now scheduled for mid to late September, its unlikely that there will be anything predictable that would swing rates all that much in either direction.
