12 things you can do to keep your home in top shape during February
1) Clean smelly dishwasher. Check for leaks.
2) Clean dryer vent duct (prevent fires).
3) Check and/or recharge fire extinguishers.
4) Clean or dust coils on back of refrigerator.
5) Change furnace filter & thermostat. Service if needed.
6) Check for overload circuits - remove excess devices on one plug.
7) Know the location of all water & gas shut-off valves.
8) Its Fire Prevention Month: Time to make a fire safety plan for your family.
9) Test carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Replace batteries.
10) Pour mineral oil into floor drain to keep sewer gases out.
11) Give adequate distance from portable heaters to combustibles.
12) Prune and trim evergreens and trees in winter, and away from the house. Trimming in colder temps helps prevent blight.
