13 things you can do to keep your home in
top-shape during October
1) Disconnect outside hoses from faucets and shut-down sprinkler system.
2) Its getting cold outside so time to set some mouse traps!
3) Disconnect and 'winterize' swamp coolers.
4) Clean dryer venting for winter use. Video (dryer vent cleaning).
5) Apply a light stain or sealer to the deck.
6) Caulk exterior siding & gaps. Weather-strip doors & windows. Use a candle to check for drafts. And close crawlspace vents for winter.
7) Check roof for loose or worn flashings, pipe jacks, shingles.
8) Lightly grease the plastic gears inside the garage door opener.
9) Drain a few gallons from the hot water heater to remove sediment.
10) Fill driveway & sidewalk cracks with concrete sealer caulk.
11) Fertilize, reseed lawn, & prepare garden beds for winter.
12) Clean and protect outdoor furniture.
