Hail Insurance Claim Advice For Denver-Area & Colorado Homeowners

Take Caution When Filing Some
Hail Insurance Claims

hail claim adviceHere's an email message I received from one of my roofing companies, that clarifies why Denver-Area homeowners should be cautious - about contacting their insurance company to file a 'suspected or uncertain' claim, right after a hail storm:

“There have been pockets of hail damage this May & June in Denver, Aurora, Broomfield, Westminster, Ft Collins, Greeley, Platteville, Morrison, Conifer, Littleton, Green Valley Ranch, Stapleton, and Montbello, just to mention a few.  With all the hail this Spring and Summer, everyone’s probably gotten hit at least once.

While we have found many homes that are "totaled", there are just as many in these areas without damage.

After the homeowner submits a claim to their insurance company, it will be recorded on the homeowners C.L.U.E. (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange - database of claims & losses) report, even if the damage is below the homeowners deductible. Too many claims can result in higher premiums, or possible cancellation, if excessive claims are filed."

When your roofing company provides you an initial estimate, I recommend waiting just a few months before taking any immediate action, to see if other neighbors are also filing successful claims with their insurance companies, and having their roofs replaced.  That said, its also wise to check your policy and confirm the time-frame in which you can file a claim - do not wait too long to risk filing outside of any policy deadline.
