12 things you can do to keep your home in
top-shape during April
1) Clear gutters of seeds, pine needles, leaves, and debris.
2) Check basement and crawlspace for dampness after first rainstorm.
3) Check sump pump. Discharge pump. Replace if aging.
4) Seal driveway & sidewalk cracks. Use crack filler.
5) Inspect satellite dishes and external antennas. Adjust.
6) Seal roof flashing, vent pipes, and masonry chimney caps from rain.
7) Press test button on all ground fault interrupters (GFCI's) for proper operation.
8) Position drains & downspouts away from house.
9) Turn-on auto sprinkler system. Test & adjust heads.
10) Inspect hoses on washing machine. Install steel braided.
11) Inspect and repair fence for wind damage.
12) Lawn watering too close to the foundation increases the potential for soil expansion and damage to the structure. Examine yard for proper drainage away from house, early spring and early fall.
