Keep your yard and garden in top shape with these timely and seasonal gardening tips.

  • If rain is little or late, keep plants irrigated with water-wise techniques.

  • Fertilize lawns with an organic fertilizer that will encourage root development during winter months.

  • Transplant new growth into pots for winter use.

  • As the weather cools, begin to plant spring flowering bulbs.  Plant tulips in late October.

  • Fertilize roses and begin to plant lilies.  Don't mulch lilies until ground freezes.

  • Sow beets, carrots, lettuce, radishes, rutabaga, spinach, and turnips.

  • Till spent annuals, and compost with fallen leaves.

  • Collect seed from perennials and annuals.
